The streets of Oakland came alive once again as thousands gathered for the 9th Annual Black Joy Parade, one of the Bay Area’s most vibrant celebrations of culture, creativity, and community pride. Held during Black History Month, the event brought together more than 30,000 attendees, hundreds of vendors, performers, and parade contingents to celebrate the power and resilience of Black culture. The 2026 theme, “Black Is the Blueprint,” highlighted the global influence of Black innovation, style, and leadership.

The Black Joy Parade has become a signature cultural event in Oakland, designed to uplift the community through celebration rather than protest. The parade highlights Black excellence in arts, entrepreneurship, education, and activism, creating a space where families, organizations, and local leaders can come together in a joyful expression of heritage and pride.

This year’s celebration featured more than 150 parade groups and dozens of performances across multiple stages, with music, dance, spoken word, and community programming energizing the city throughout the day.

Members of the Bay Area’s National Pan-Hellenic Council organizations—often referred to as the “Divine Nine”—were well represented at the parade. The brothers of Phi Beta Sigma and the sisters of Zeta Phi Beta marched in solidarity, engaging with spectators and celebrating their shared commitment to service and community empowerment.
